Press release : Astatine-211 network

Alpha Nuclide, a ²¹¹At-focused radiopharmaceutical infrastructure company, today announced a strategic alliance with Protherium, an EU-based radiopharmaceutical development and manufacturing network company. This strategic alliance proposes to build a Europe-wide ²¹¹At supply and manufacturing network.
Under this alliance, Alpha Nuclide and Protherium intend to invest and establish a Europe-wide CDMO/CMO network integrating ²¹¹At production and supply, drug product manufacture and distribution, by leveraging their complimentary areas of expertise. Alpha Nuclide will provide its core technology in cyclotron production of ²¹¹At at large scales, automation of production and radiochemistry process development, rooted from its vertically integrated center for excellence in Jiaxing, China. Protherium will provide its deep knowledge in regulatory affairs, talents, and strong expertise in managing large-scale therapeutic radiopharmaceutical manufacturing infrastructure. The two companies will invest in and build a network of centers across Europe, each of which includes a cyclotron facility and modularized cGMP suites. Together, this alliance will engage pharma partners globally and provide a one-stop solution for ²¹¹At targeted alpha therapy (TAT) supply chain that is strong, reliable, consistent, and robust.
“Astatine-211 has unique advantages which position itself as an attractive alternative in a space that is dominant by radiometals,” said Yutian Feng, Co-Founder and CEO of Alpha Nuclide. “Expanding its clinical and commercial potential requires not only reliable isotope supply, but also the infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities for ²¹¹At drug products. By combining Alpha Nuclide’s expertise in ²¹¹At production, purification and radiochemistry with Protherium’s radiopharmaceutical manufacturing infrastructure and capabilities in Europe, we aim to build an integrated network spanning radionuclide production through final drug product manufacturing. This collaboration is an important step toward making ²¹¹At more accessible to radiopharmaceutical developers and ultimately to patients across Europe.”
“Therapies with ²¹¹At show a strong potential and could drastically improve the patient outcome in a wide range of indications. But clinical development has been seriously refrained by limited production capacities” said Prof. Gilles Karcher, Co-founder and Chairman of Protherium. “This Alliance with Alpha Nuclide is a great opportunity to build the industrial infrastructure required to expand access to novel ²¹¹At based therapeutic solutions for patients”.
Alpha Nuclide is a leading supplier of Astatine-211, one of the most promising alpha-particle emitting radionuclides, and provides radiopharmaceutical manufacturing services in China. With two 30 MeV cyclotrons, large-scale manufacturing capabilities, and GMP radiopharmaceutical production facilities, Alpha Nuclide has established a strong platform for cyclotron-based radionuclide production. With core expertise in ²¹¹At production, purification and radiolabeling, Alpha Nuclide provides integrated CRO and CDMO services, including TAT drug discovery services and clinical logistics, to support biopharma partners from early-stage research and development through clinical development and commercial supply, enabling efficient and reliable access to short-lived isotopes for next-generation targeted alpha therapies in collaboration with partners including Jinhong Medical and Redstone.
Protherium develops a network of advanced radiopharmaceutical production units in Europe. Established in 2025 in Villers-lès-Nancy, France, the company was founded by Prof. Gilles Karcher, Dr. Richard Zimmermann, and Dr. Jean-Bernard Deloye, bringing together expertise in nuclear medicine, radiopharmacy, and industrialization. Protherium is the large-scale industrial extension of the existing CMO Posifit, associated with the Clinical trials platform Nancyclotep and leveraging Nancy’s ecosystem from research to industrial production.
Its Gondreville site near Nancy, currently under construction, will comprise approximately 7,100m2 of fully equipped independent radiopharmaceutical production unit including each several modular production lines. Backed by private funds, Protherium is pursuing a long-term strategy to develop a European network of radiopharmaceutical production sites, with plans to replicate the Nancy model across seven sites in seven European countries over the next three years. Protherium’s activities span Development, Establishment, Access, Adaptation, and Investment, together with radiopharmaceutical R&D and tailored CMO/CDMO services, staffing, manufacturing site establishment and operation, regulatory and transportation support, and access to local financing solutions.
